Monster Doily

Hello, I hope that you are well. The weather has improved dramatically today so I am finally able to show you the finished doily. It took far longer to make than any of the others which I think was due to it having ten flowers, all of which had to be made separately, and then the ten leaves around the edge. Hence the title of the post.

It was relatively easy to make, just very time consuming. I used a pattern from Ravelry but can no longer find it, there are similar ones on there though. For some reason, despite blocking, I can't quite get it to lie flat as it does in the pictures that came with the pattern. I'm pleased with how it worked out though and have now moved on to a couple of smaller, simpler doilies.

Before I pop off to tackle the humongous washing pile that is threatening to eat all who cross its path, I'd just like to share a pic of my frilly pansies. I can't remember the actual name (duh) but I think they are lovely...

Doily Sneak Peek

Hello there. I hope you had a good weekend. As is typical of a UK Bank Holiday Monday the weather here is grey and overcast so still not very good for taking pics. The weathermen predicted sunny spells but I am yet to see any. So I am unable to reveal the finished doily, instead I can only show you a sneak peek that I managed to take a few days ago.....

I hope that you are having better weather.

Pink Daisy Doily

I finally finished the pink doily and wow that took a lot of blocking! When I had finished the crochet it was so curled up that I thought it would be completely unusable. After a lot of stretching, pulling, pinning and wetting followed by three days waiting for it to dry and a lot of re-pinning thanks to the cats I finally had a usable doily. Phew!

Yesterday I finished a more traditional looking doily, again in pink. That too needs to be blocked but not in such a drastic way.
I think that I am now all doilied out. As much as enjoy making them I am running out of room. There are only so many surfaces that can take a doily! The only problem is that I am now stuck for ideas for what I can do for my next project....

Doily done

A quick update on the doily/potholder. I really struggled with the last two rounds and I think I did the second to last round wrong. There were also a couple of mistakes as I was going along but I managed to work with them and you can't really tell. It still needs to be blocked as the edges are a bit curly. Overall I quite like it, the pattern was difficult but I suppose its just a case of getting used to following a diagram instead of having it all written down. When I first saw a written crochet it was all complete gobbledegook but I soon got used to it.

In other news we are still having some good weather here in Lancashire. There is a volcanic dust cloud heading our way from Iceland which I think is quite a rare event. I don't remember anything like this ever happening before. At the moment though the sky is a lovely shade of blue with the odd white fluffy cloud drifting past. No planes at all though which is a little odd.
